Squirrels
Our youngest adventurers
Squirrels is the youngest section in Scouting, welcoming children aged 4 to 6 years old.
At 6th Ramsgate Royal Harbour Sea Scouts, our Squirrel Drey gives young people the chance to make friends, have fun, explore the world around them, and start learning skills for life in a safe, friendly, and supportive environment.
When do Squirrels meet?
Our Squirrel section meets on:
Monday evenings
16:30 – 17:30
Who can join?
Squirrels is for children aged 4 to 6 years old.
Spaces may be limited, so please get in touch if you would like to find out more or add your child to the waiting list.
Volunteering with Squirrels
Our Squirrel section is only possible thanks to adult volunteers.
You do not need any previous Scouting experience, and full training and support will be provided. Whether you can help every week or just occasionally, your support can make a big difference to our youngest members.
Squirrel UNIFORM
Our Squirrel uniform comprises a Squirrel Scout sweatshirt and a white “necker”, black trousers and black shoes. We expect all our Squirrels to look smart, particularly for formal events and parades. However, for normal colony meetings we are happy for the trousers and shoes to be replaced by a more informal pair of black/dark coloured track suit bottoms and trainers as the Squirrels will be playing games.
We recommend that you obtain a larger size sweatshirt than you normally would to allow growing room throughout your child’s career in Squirrels (and to avoid unpicking badges and resewing them onto a new one!).
Scroll down for an illustration showing the positioning of the badges on the uniform.

THE SQUIRREL PROMISE
As well as enjoying adventures, being a Squirrel is about exploring who you are and what you stand for. So, when you join the Drey, you’ll make a promise (a set of words that mean something to you, which you try to follow every day).
Making the promise is a big celebration called being ‘invested’; family are welcome to come along and watch. Everyone is unique but there are some things all Squirrels agree on – such as treating everyone with kindness and promising to do their best.
There are a number of variations of the Squirrels Scout Promise to reflect the range of faiths, beliefs and attitudes within Scouting. Squirrels choose the promise that best suits them, and for those for whom promising to do their “duty to God” is not appropriate, there are alternatives. Please discuss the options with a Leader.
